₵23m debt: ECG officials to disconnect Parliament

Officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have arrived at Parliament today to disconnect the legislative house from the national power grid due to GH₵23 million in outstanding debts. The ECG has been aggressively working to collect revenues over the past year.

The officials were seen on the premises and near key power transformers supplying electricity to Parliament. Without intervention, Parliament may be without power for the day.

This comes after Accra Academy Senior High School was also disconnected by ECG for owing GHS480,000. The ECG has stated that consistent debt is a problem they face and they must be more aggressive in collecting payments to cover their own bills.
