2 out of 10 married men cheat on their spouses – GSS report

Are you suspecting your husband of infidelity? The recent 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey has shed light on the alarming rate of extramarital affairs among married Ghanaian men. Shockingly, the survey revealed that 17.5% of married men in Ghana have engaged in relationships with two or more partners outside of their marriage. Additionally, 18.4% of married men admitted to being involved in sexual intercourse with individuals who were not their wives.

The findings also highlighted the behavior of divorced, separated, and widowed men in Ghana. A concerning 18.7% of these men were involved with two or more partners, and a staggering 69.9% engaged in sexual activities with individuals other than their wives.

Even more alarming is the behavior of young men aged 15-24. Approximately 10% of these individuals have had multiple partners, and a significant 35.2% admitted to having sexual relations with individuals other than their wives.

In a related matter, the survey discovered that 80% of females aged 15-24 engage in sexual activities without using condoms. Astonishingly, despite being aware of the protective benefits of condoms in reducing the risk of HIV transmission, 79% of young women failed to consistently use them.

Regrettably, the Ghana AIDS Commission reported that females account for two-thirds of new HIV infections in Ghana. Out of the total 16,574 new HIV infections recorded in the 2022 National and Sub-National HIV/AIDS estimates and projections, females made up 10,927 cases, while males accounted for 5,647 cases.
