2020 Polls: EC has integrity deficit- NDC

National Democratic Congress has taken a swipe at Electoral Commission, accusing EC Chair Jean Mensa and her Deputy Dr. Bossman Asare of red hearing, ignorance of Ghana’s electoral laws and self-seeking agenda with their collaborators to save sinking image of their outfits after rigging the 2020 for NPP.

Dr. Bossman Asare at press conference described Ex-President John Mahama of lying that excess ballot papers were printed to solely rig the 2020 polls in favour of Akufo-Addo calling on the police to probe the matter.

According to the General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the remarks by Dr. Bossman Asare at the press conference that the the EC can’t be blamed for the killing of innocent voters during 2020 polls is a ‘shocking display of dishonesty, asking him acquaint himself with the leader of Elections taskforce at every polling station.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday 28 October 2021 in Accra, General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said “The EC has integrity deficit. 2020 election is the worse and the EC must work on improving his credibility to regain the confidence of Ghanaians “.

Asiedu Nketiah has also confirmed that the NDC accept the challenge by the EC to petition the police to investigate one million excess ballot papers printed by the EC and will petition the police to probe the matter.

“Excess ballot papers were thumprinted at many constituencies including Ejura, Asawase, Manso Nkwanta and others. EC must stop hostility towards the EC”.

Apart from that “History will always recall that it’s Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare-led Electoral Commission role played in the killing of innocent Ghanaians during the 2020 elections”, Asiedu Nketiah.

Asiedu Nketiah has also accused the judiciary of failing to deepen Ghana’s democracy when it refused to uphold laws during ‘7:0 election petitions’ filed John Mahama.

“Judiciary is complecit in the weakening of Ghana’s democratic experiment. The judiciary is culpable”.

Asiedu Nketiah has also asked Dr. Bossman Asare to go back to the drawing board and ‘ acquaint’ himself with the electoral laws of Ghana ahead of future press conference because he is not top of issues to be taken serious.

For Asiedu Nketiah, “You can’t score yourself high and with a very good mark when you breached Article 45 (b) of the Constitution by denying the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) the franchise which is the rights to vote and be voted. Bossman Asare…do you know your second most important function is demarcation of areas into constituencies..? Go back and read electoral laws of Ghana”, Asiedu Nketiah noted.

In view of this, Asiedu Nketiah urged Electoral Commission to immediately “Reverse to the strong principles of accommodation and tolerance to usher-in mutual respect for the NDC. You conducted the worse election in 2020”.
