2024 polls: EC approves 13 presidential aspirants

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially approved 13 candidates to participate in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections after a rigorous vetting process. The approved candidates come from various political backgrounds, including major parties and independents.

Notably, Bernard Mornah from the People’s National Convention was disqualified, despite his party’s promise to break the current leadership duopoly. Among the approved candidates are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

New candidates from smaller parties and independent platforms are also entering the race, offering fresh ideas and perspectives on governance. The EC emphasized fairness and transparency in the selection process and urged candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns in accordance with electoral guidelines.

With economic challenges and public dissatisfaction on the rise, analysts anticipate a fiercely contested election campaign ahead.

Here are disqualified Presidential aspirants by the EC:

Bernard

The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP) from contesting in the December 7, 2024, presidential elections. This announcement was made in a communiqué issued by the EC on Friday, September 20, 2024.

Other presidential candidates disqualified by the EC include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah and Nii Amu Darko,

The rests are Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw (Progressive People’s Party).
