8-member c’ttee appointed to plan National Education Forum
President John Mahama has formed an eight-member committee to plan the upcoming National Education Forum as part of his commitment to reforming Ghana’s education system.
The committee, chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has been tasked with presenting a detailed plan for the forum within two weeks.
Other members of the committee include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
Their mandate is to create a comprehensive strategy for engaging key stakeholders in education and developing a new national education policy framework. This includes selecting a theme, identifying relevant stakeholders such as students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organizations, political parties, and others, and proposing a venue and dates for the forum. The committee will also prepare a budget and design a stakeholder engagement agenda, which will feature thematic breakout sessions and plenary discussions.
Additionally, the committee is tasked with establishing a secretariat to document the proceedings, compile a report with key findings and recommendations, and draft a national education policy framework. Within three weeks of the forum, they will present an action plan for implementing the proposed recommendations.
The National Education Forum is expected to bring together a diverse range of education professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to address the challenges facing Ghana’s education system and propose meaningful reforms.
