UTAG declares strike Monday

University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has declared an indefinite strike from Monday, 10 January 2022 over worsening conditions of service.

The industrial action by the lecturers was contained in a statement dated January 8, 2022.

The Association spelt out many reasons for laying down their tools Monday.

These include “the pittance agreed to be paid as annual research allowance”.

They want among other things for the government to “reconsider the payment of a more realistic research allowance” as they said it is critical to their research output, promotion and ultimately national development.

This was after lawyers of UTAG failed to comply with Section 20(14) of the rules that govern their application before the court.
