10th Ghana CEO Summit: VRA Boss named Energy Sector CEO of the Year

The Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, has been honoured as the Energy Sector CEO of the Year at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
The prestigious award marks the second consecutive year that Mr. Obeng-Kenzo has received the recognition, having first won the honour in 2025. The accolade reflects his growing influence within Ghana’s energy sector and the remarkable progress achieved by VRA under his leadership.

Recognition for exceptional leadership
Mr. Obeng-Kenzo was recognised for his exemplary leadership, strategic vision, and outstanding contribution to the growth and transformation of Ghana’s energy industry. The award was presented by Togbi Afede XIV before an audience of distinguished business leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders attending the summit.

The Energy Sector CEO of the Year award celebrates chief executives whose leadership and innovation have significantly contributed to Ghana’s socio-economic development through the advancement of the energy industry.

Driving VRA’s success
A major factor behind the recognition was VRA’s strong performance in 2025. Under Mr. Obeng-Kenzo’s stewardship, the Authority successfully delivered reliable electricity to meet increasing national demand during a period of heightened energy consumption.
The Authority was also commended for maintaining its role as a dependable provider of affordable electricity, serving not only Ghana but also several countries across the West African sub-region. Industry observers noted that VRA’s operational achievements have strengthened its position as a critical driver of economic growth and national development. According to the award citation, Mr. Obeng-Kenzo’s leadership has enhanced operational efficiency, improved institutional performance, and reinforced VRA’s standing as one of the leading power generation organisations in the region.

Strong VRA representation at the summit
The VRA Chief Executive was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Authority during the ceremony. The delegation included Samel Kwesi Fletcher, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Services; Jacob Fosu Kyei, Director of Procurement; Clement Boakye, Director of Corporate Strategy; and Joyce Offei Asiedu, Director of Human Resources, alongside other officials of the Authority. Their presence underscored the collective effort behind VRA’s achievements and highlighted the institution’s commitment to excellence across its operations.

Showcasing innovation and capacity building
Beyond the award ceremony, VRA actively participated in the summit’s exhibition activities, where it showcased its Value Added Services and training programmes offered through the VRA Academy. The exhibition provided an important platform for the Authority to engage stakeholders, increase brand visibility, and promote its expanding portfolio of services. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about VRA’s initiatives aimed at strengthening capacity development and supporting industry growth.

Reinforcing VRA’s leadership in the energy sector
The latest recognition further cements VRA’s reputation as a leading force in Ghana’s energy sector. It also highlights the impact of Mr. Obeng-Kenzo’s leadership in advancing the Authority’s mandate of providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to support national development. As VRA continues to expand its influence and strengthen its operational performance, the award serves as a testament to the Authority’s commitment to excellence and its critical role in powering Ghana’s economic transformation.
