In every ten years, Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) enumerate Ghanaians in order to know the number of people living in Ghana.
This gives better opportunity to decision makers to make right decisions that will benefit the citizens.
The ongoing census was supposed to be held in 2020, but was shifted to 2021 because of covid 19 pandemic.
Census Field Officers are facing several challenges in a bid to gather the data, because most respondents are reluctant to give out their information.
Some are complaining about the hardship in the country, and not seeing how these data collection will change that.
One enumerator who share his story with African African on condition of anonymity says out of frustration, he lambasted a young lady and walked out over continues disrespect.
“This particular household always give me bad attitude whenever I go there, from listing to enumeration. On my next visit a man came out and saw me chuckled and left. Because I needed the data, I stood there until you a young light skin lady came out. She was the same person I met during the listing, so I thought it will be easy since she is already familiar with the process”
“She wasn’t speaking loud and on top covered her lips with her arm, that made it even more difficult for me because I was reading her lips. She was nagging about me delaying and the sun scorching her and so many complaints, which made me asked her if she thinks her data will give me oxygen to survive”
Even though I’m not to get furious, I did because her nagging attitude overwhelmed me, that made me lambasted and I walked out”
Meanwhile, the whole process is supposed to come to a close, on the 11th July, 2021, but majority of Ghanaians are yet to be enumerated.
