World Hepatitis Day: 4.5m African Children u-5yrs infected- WHO

President of Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana Dr. Owusu Ansah has urged government to immediately scale up investment in the treatment of Hepatitis.

World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that about 4.5 million African Children under 5 years are infected with Hepatitis disease.

Speaking in an interview monitored by African Editors on Wednesday 28 July 2021 in Accra, President of Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana Dr. Owusu Ansah said “Let’s not wait for people to be infected with Hepatitis before we fight for treatment. Government should invest heavily toward the prevention of Hepatitis. That’s the only way we can meet the 2030 target set by World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, Consultant Gatroeterogist and Physician Specialist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Dr. Adwoa Agyei-Nkansah said “government needs to pay much attention to the battle against Hepatitis and take urgent steps to combat Hepatitis in Ghana”.
