#OccupyBoG Protest: Minority remains resolute

Minority in Parliament
The Minority group in parliament has affirmed its intention to proceed with a protest scheduled for Tuesday, September 12. This decision comes despite the fact that a court injunction application, initially slated for September 5, has not been heard.

On Friday, the court dismissed objections raised by lawyers representing the Minority MPs and instructed the police to rectify certain irregularities in the injunction application.

The dispute centered around the police filing the application without proper authorisation from the Attorney General, which was deemed a violation of the State Proceedings Act.

The court ruled that the police were empowered by the Public Order Act to initiate an injunction but highlighted the irregularity of filing it in the name of the Republic.

Justice Edward Twum presiding over the case granted the police the opportunity to amend the application, emphasising that the case would not be dismissed solely on technical grounds.

Following the ruling, counsel for the MPs, Edudzi Tamekloe, requested that the court proceed to hear the substantive injunction application. However, the court granted the police permission to amend the application and adjourned the case until September 18.

Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer for the NDC, revealed after the proceedings that the protest is still scheduled for September 12, despite the pending injunction application.

Simultaneously, organisers of the #OccupyBoG protest are set to meet with the police later today to discuss their planned demonstration on September 12.
