#OcuppyJulorBiHouse protest Day2: EL, Efia Odo, others join day 2
Some Ghanaian celebrities on Friday 22 September joined the Democracy Hub group for Day 2 of the Occupy Jubilee House protest.
They include Efia Odo, EL, Kelvyn Boy and comedian Warris joined demonstrators gathered at the 37 lorry park to march to the Jubilee House.
The police have arrested 49 suspects in connection with the planned demonstration at the vicinity of the Jubilee House – the seat of government – on Thursday (21 September)
They were arrested “within the vicinity of the Jubilee House and the 37 Military Hospital area,” the statement from the police said.
According to the police, the protesters were arrested as a result of the “flagrant disregard of the court process served on the organisers, which seeks to prohibit them from embarking on a planned demonstration.”
The protesters are demanding a range of reforms, including a reduction in the cost of living, an end to corruption, and improved governance.
Below is the police statement:
On Thursday, the protest was disrupted after the Police rounded up 56 of the organisers and locked them up in police cells for unlawful assembly.
The protesters were rounded up at the 37 bus terminal, where they had assembled for the planned protest. The protesters were released late Thursday evening after extensive negotiations with the Police by their lawyers.
The group has vowed to continue their protest despite the arrest of some participants and alleged intimidation by the police.
