Daasebre Antwi Awuah IV, the legitimate chief of Begoro has been sent out of the Begoro Palace. The Begoro palace has been under police occupation for about nine months now.
According to the revered chief, the Police presence at the Palace was instigated by reports from Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin’s to the Inspector General of Police (IGP} insinuating chieftaincy chaos in Begoro township. Up to date the Police has observed no such conflict as reported.
After the death of Daasebre Awuah Kotoko, Nana Kyerewaa Amantia II of Fanteakwa Begoro, and Benkumhemaa of Akyim Abuakwa Traditional Area and her counsel followed laid down tradition to nominate, select, and enstool Daasebre Antwi Awuah IV to succeed him.
The newly installed chief has been kept out of the local Palace for the past nine months due to the police presence meanwhile the chief of Akyim Abuakwa, Amoatia Ofori Panin wants to make himself the overlord of all Akyems. He is currently making serious effort to impose one Joseph Amfo Amoamah whom the queenmother has said repeatedly that he is not from her blood relation as the rival chief for Begoro.
Daasebre Antwi Awuah IV, is trying as much as he could to use the traditional house of Chiefs and the courts to address some of these issues.
In a recent ruling from the Regional House of Chiefs, the panel ruled that the process deployed to make, Joseph Amfo Amoamah a chief by Okyehene is illegitimate. So therefore, it’s NULL AND VOID. The ruling further advised all the stakeholders to follow due process and involve the queenmother who is the rightful person to select, appoint and nominate a chief to occupy the Begoro stool.
The people of Begoro are worried about what is happening today and it’s impact on their development.
Okyehene is not a kingmaker so it’s strange to find him actively involved in this Melee. Why is the Okyehene insisting on determining who becomes the next chief for Begoro? Why is IGP Dampare paying attention to only what Okyehene tells him?
The Regional House of Chiefs, the Police, etc. seem to be following the Okyehene’s narrative against the collective good of Begoro people. Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin has no power to determine who rules Begoro.
