2023 AFCON: Ghana Black Stars camp in Kumasi

The Ghana Football Association has made an important announcement regarding the plans for the Black Stars’ training camp ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. After a review meeting between the Management & Technical Team, it has been decided to change the location from South Africa to Kumasi, Ghana. This adjustment will provide a quieter and more serene atmosphere for the team’s preparations.

As a result of this change, the international friendly against Botswana, which was originally scheduled for January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg has been called off. The FA is now actively working on finding a new opponent as part of the team’s build-up to the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire.

During the training camp in Kumasi, the team’s hotel will be strictly inaccessible to the public and the media, honoring the Black Stars Technical Team’s request for a peaceful environment. The training sessions will also be closed to the public and media. However, there will be a specific media session organized by the team, and the friendly match will be open to the public. A post-match press conference with the media will also be conducted.

The Ghana Football Association seeks public understanding and support to ensure that the objectives of the Black Stars Technical Team are achieved during this camping period in Kumasi. Ghana is placed in Group B alongside strong competitors such as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Cape Verde on January 14, followed by matches against Egypt on January 18 and Mozambique on January 22.
