Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has officially announced her desire to become the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

In line with the agreement that the next Secretary-General should be from Africa, President Nana Akufo-Addo has nominated Botchwey as Ghana’s candidate. The election for the new Secretary-General will take place on October 22, 2024, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
