Samuel Eto’o-resignation rejected

Cameroon Football Federation President Samuel Eto’o offered his resignation on Monday, citing allegations of misconduct, match-fixing, and corruption. However, the federation’s executive committee rejected his resignation and expressed their renewed confidence in him to continue his efforts to rebuild and develop Cameroon football. The federation did not disclose any other decisions or conclusions from their meeting, leaving the future of national team coach Rigobert Song uncertain following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The federation is currently under investigation for various alleged offenses that were reported to the FIFA ethics committee and Confederation of African Football. It also noted that Eto’o is “presumed to be innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise.” Eto’o’s ties to a sports betting company have also raised concerns in Cameroon, adding to the ongoing challenges faced by Cameroonian soccer.

Despite the controversy surrounding Eto’o’s presidency, he had represented Cameroon at four World Cups between 1998 and 2014.
