Admit you chaired failed EMT -Dr. Forson to Bawumia

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament of Ghana, strongly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his recent remarks regarding the authority of the Economic Management Team (EMT) which he chaired. Dr. Forson, leading the NDC MPs, rejected Dr. Bawumia’s claims, deeming them false and unacceptable to the Ghanaian people.

According to Dr. Forson, Dr. Bawumia’s remarks were mere excuses for the failures of the EMT, resulting in significant burdens for the Ghanaian people. In a social media post, Dr. Forson emphasized the vigilance of Ghanaians and their resistance to be swayed by Dr. Bawumia’s rhetoric.

Dr. Forson urged the Vice President to take responsibility for the failed policies under his leadership and implement any improved strategies he may have, rather than aiming for the presidency. He questioned why Dr. Bawumia was downplaying the role of the EMT and his chairmanship, especially when the negative impact of the government’s economic policies was affecting Ghanaians and causing hardships.

Dr. Forson stated that Dr. Bawumia oversees the EMT, where key decisions regarding the national economy are made. These decisions are then presented to Cabinet for approval, where Dr. Bawumia justifies them alongside Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

On the other hand, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia clarified that the EMT, which he presided over, did not have decision-making authority. He explained that the EMT, functioning as a sub-committee of the Cabinet, could only provide recommendations rather than enact them.

During an address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, on February 7, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his intent to use his decision-making powers when elected as President, despite the limitations as Chairman of the EMT. He expressed pride in the quality of advice provided by the EMT to the Cabinet over the years.
