Dumsor in parliament as MPs stuck in elevator

Frantic efforts are being made by firemen in parliament to rescue people stuck in elevators as a result of the disconnection by Electricity Company of Ghana ( ECG) over 23 million cedis debt.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) disconnected power supply to Parliament and Job 600, the office complex of the Members of Parliament, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, due to a GHc23 million debt. Lawmakers and staff using the elevator at the time got stuck as a result of the power cut.

This disconnection is part of the ongoing “Operation Zero Balance” initiative by the ECG task force to recover outstanding debts. The Minority in Parliament is demanding a load shedding schedule from the ECG to help people plan their activities in the midst of the ongoing power crisis. They argue that the government’s denial of the existence of load shedding, known as ‘Dumsor’, is not sufficient. They are calling for transparency and planning to help citizens navigate the challenges posed by the energy crisis.
