NDC-NEC meets over Mahama’s running mate today
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to meet today, Thursday, March 7, to discuss the proposed running mate by the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama. The meeting will start at 2 pm at a location that has been communicated to the attendees.
This decision comes after Mr. Mahama sent a letter to the party about the nomination of his running mate, as outlined in Article 45 of the NDC Constitution. In a press release issued on Tuesday, February 27, signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwettey, it was mentioned that the NEC meeting will happen after consultations with the Council of Elders.
The statement from the party said, “The NDC received a formal communication from our Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, regarding the nomination of his Running Mate as per Article 45 of the NDC Constitution.”
“In response to this, the Council of Elders will meet at 11:00 hrs on Thursday, March 7, 2024, to discuss this important matter. Following this, the National Executive Committee will gather at 14:00 hrs on the same day to further deliberate on the nomination.”
Although there is speculation, many analysts predict that Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang will continue as the party’s running mate from the 2020 elections.
