GACL’s $20 charge: Parliament summons Transport Minister

Parliament has called for Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, to attend a hearing before the House on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, regarding alleged unlawful charges imposed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

The Minority Caucus raised concerns about the $20 maintenance charge for round trips and $10 charge for one-way trips introduced by the Ghana Airports Company Limited. MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, accused the company of colluding with the Transport Minister on these charges and requested that he explain the basis for the fees being imposed.

In response to these concerns, Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiamah directed the Transport Minister to address the House on March 19 in order to provide clarification on the authority behind the charges and ensure they comply with the Fees and Charges Act approved by Parliament. He emphasized the importance of the Minister being present to address these issues raised by the Minority Caucus.
