Kwesi Nyantakyi hospitalised hours to Ejisu NPP primary
Reports have surfaced stating that former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been hospitalized just hours before the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Ejisu Constituency, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024. Nyantakyi, one of the nine candidates vying in the election, reportedly fell ill during a meeting with his associates in Akyawkrom, a suburb of Ejisu, on Friday evening. Witnesses saw him stumbling with his hand on his head before being assisted and taken to a hospital for treatment. A photo showing Nyantakyi looking frail in a hospital bed with a drip attached has circulated.
The NPP’s parliamentary primary proceeds despite this incident, following the recent passing of the late MP John Kumah on March 7, 2024. The vetting committee cleared all nine aspirants for candidacy in the Ejisu Constituency primary, including Kwabena Boateng, Dr. Evans Duah, Klinsman Karikari Mensah, Helena Mensah, and Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey. The remaining candidates are Portia Baffoe Abronye, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Aaron Prince Duah, and Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has arranged the by-election for April 30, 2024, following Kumah’s death at the age of 45 due to a brief illness. No other political party besides the NDC has shown interest in participating in the by-election. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for the region, has indicated his intention to run as an independent candidate in the impending election.
