Asogli State chiefs reject Ho Tech University-renaming

The Chiefs of the Asogli State have strongly objected to the government’s proposal to change the name of Ho Technical University to Dr. Ephriam Amu Technical Institute. The decision, announced in February 2018, has been met with criticism from the Traditional Council for not involving key stakeholders in the consultation process.

During a press conference on Monday, April 22, 2024, the council expressed disappointment with both the government and the university’s governing council for moving forward with the renaming without consulting major stakeholders, including the Asogli State Council. The council described the decision as regrettable, ill-considered, and disrespectful to those affected by it.

Togbe Adzi Lakle Howusu XII, speaking on behalf of the Asogli State Council, reiterated their firm opposition to the renaming, emphasizing that it was unjustified and undermines the university’s identity and history.

The Asogli State Council stated, “We are once again alarmed by the attempts of Ho Technical University and the government to rename the institution as Dr. Ephraim Amu Technical Institute. We stand firm in our opposition to the government’s decision to rename the university without consulting the chiefs and people of Ho. This decision is seen as unfortunate, misguided, and disrespectful.”
