The University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC) celebrated its second congregation ceremony for the 2022/2023 year group with jubilation and optimism for the future. The event, which took place on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the university’s south campus, saw a majority of female graduates stepping into the next phase of their lives with knowledge, determination, and hope.

Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, the university’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, proudly announced that 70.5%of the graduates were female, marking a significant achievement in gender parity and empowerment. He commended the graduates for their dedication and perseverance, noting their outstanding contributions to the academic and extracurricular fabric of the university.

The event was graced by the Chief Executive Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, representing the Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum, as the Guest of Honour. The Valedictorian, Barbara Akushia Quaye, expressed profound joy at the majority of female graduates and celebrated the progress and empowerment of women in academia and beyond.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and expressions of gratitude to faculty, staff, family members, and friends who supported them throughout their academic journey. As the graduates embark on their respective paths, they are inspired to make meaningful contributions to society guided by the values of excellence, integrity, and service instilled by their alma mater. The event was a lively and joyous celebration of achievement and progress.

During UniMAC’s second graduation ceremony, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Eric Opoku Mensah urged the 2024 graduates to become creators and innovators in the media industry. He emphasized the importance of being the source of news rather than just passive recipients, encouraging them to advocate for positive change in their communities.

Prof Mensah reminded the graduates that their education at UniMAC had not only equipped them with technical skills, but also with values of integrity, empathy, and social responsibility. He urged them to use their voices, talents, and skills to amplify diverse perspectives and foster dialogue and understanding.

With 70 percent of the graduating class being female, the ceremony marked a significant milestone for UniMAC. The event highlighted the university’s commitment to cultivating a new generation of media leaders who are prepared to navigate and shape the future of the industry.

Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Osei Assibey Antwi, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Education, reiterated the importance of embracing affirmative action and striving for excellence in education.

Graduate and emerging media personality Kofi Okyere Darko shared his insights and aspirations, discussing the opportunities and challenges that the new cohort of media professionals will face in their careers ahead.
