IGP leaked tape: Go back and complete your work – Speaker to Adhoc Committee

Parliament of Ghana has decided to put a hold on the Parliamentary report regarding a leaked tape suggesting a plan to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare due to disagreements among committee members.

The Speaker of Parliament has instructed the committee to revisit the issue and complete their task after arguments between the Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, and Vice Chairman, James Agalga hindered progress. The Speaker has prohibited MPs from discussing the matter publicly and emphasized the need for a thorough examination before any decisions are made. The committee’s inability to reach a consensus on the allegations of extrajudicial killings against the IGP has delayed the report’s completion.

Despite differing opinions within the committee, it is suggested that the officers involved should face disciplinary action from the Police Council and the President. Former senior police officer and committee member Peter Lanchene Toobu has disputed the unproven allegations of extrajudicial killings against the IGP.
