We hope you can be part of this journey with us.

The highly anticipated 2024 Ghana Garden and Flower Show (GGFS) kicked off in Accra, September 22, 2024, attracting gardening enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and nature lovers from near and far.

Taking place at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, the event is set to be a lively celebration of all things horticulture, sustainability, and the natural world.

With the theme of “GREENOVATION: Green the Nation, Feed the Nation, Grow the Nation,” this year’s show emphasizes the importance of innovation in tackling urgent global issues like climate change, environmental destruction, and food insecurity.

For more than ten years, the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement (GGFM), led by Strategic Communication Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa), has been at the forefront of promoting the potential of floriculture, horticulture, and agriculture in driving social and economic progress.

The flagship GGFS plays a crucial role in bringing together flower and plant businesses, enthusiasts, and stakeholders to advocate for sustainability and climate action.

In light of the challenges posed by climate change, the GGFM underscores the essential role of these sectors in environmental stewardship, food security, and the fight against climate change. Recent weather disruptions have highlighted the vulnerabilities of Ghana’s floriculture and horticulture industry, which is vital for food security and sustainability.

The 2024 GGFS will focus on expanding horticultural participation and encouraging home gardening to improve food security. As Ghana aims for food self-sufficiency by 2029, GGFM and GGFS are key players in addressing environmental concerns.

Sharon Amin, marketing manager at Stratcomm Africa, outlined the activities planned for this year’s show, including Gardening Masterclasses, a Green to Riches Youth Conference, and the Little Green Fingers program for children. Additionally, there will be an Efua Sutherland book stroll, drama night, music night, and a petal tossing ceremony to close the event.

Amowi Sutherland-Phillips, daughter of Dr. Efua Sutherland, emphasized the significance of maintaining the park in line with her mother’s vision. She stressed the importance of creating a green, culturally rich, well-maintained park that showcases Ghana’s natural heritage and serves as a vital lung for the city.

Sutherland-Phillips acknowledged the communal effort required to bring this vision to life and praised all those involved in the GGF Movement and Show for their contribution. She wished them a successful show and praised their ongoing commitment to preserving the park for future generations.
