Ghanaian Times’ Jonathan Donkor, Benedicta Gyimah Folley grab GJA awards

Investigative journalist Edward Adeti of Reporters Without Borders was awarded the 2023 Paul Archibald Vianney (PAV) Ansah Journalist of the Year at the 28th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards. His piece “Stealing from the Sick” exposed drug shortages at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, earning him the top prize of the night and the title of Investigative Journalist of the Year.

Jonathan Donkor from The Ghanaian Times was named Road Safety Journalist of the Year for his article on defective vehicle tires causing accidents, while Benedicta Gyimaah Folley won Gender Journalist of the Year for her piece on witchcraft accusations and human rights abuses.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and UN Resident Coordinator Charles Abani were among the guests at the event, which marked the GJA’s 75th anniversary. Adeti, unable to attend the ceremony, dedicated his award to all journalists committed to truth and accountability.

Over 30 journalists and media outlets were recognized at the event themed “75 years of excellence in journalism: The role of the media in democratic governance and elections.” Beatrice Senadju of GBC was named Female Journalist of the Year, while Edward Acquah of Ghana News Agency won Most Promising Journalist of the Year.

Various awards were presented to journalists from different outlets, including Best TV and Radio Reporters of the Year, as well as awards for feature and investigative reporting. The event celebrated the achievements of journalists in Ghana and their commitment to upholding journalistic standards.
