Withdraw & publicly announce Ghana Hydro Authority Bill -VRA Staff
The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) is urging the government to publicly declare the withdrawal of a proposed bill that seeks to merge the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), Bui Power Authority, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), and the VRA into two separate entities.
This request follows ongoing appeals from the Senior Staff Groups of the VRA, who argue that the merger could have serious repercussions for both the VRA and the nation.
The demand was made during a closed meeting between the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapah, and the VRA’s leadership to address their concerns.
The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Theophilus Tetteh Ahia, emphasized that the VRA will continue to advocate for a public statement confirming the bill’s withdrawal.
“The Minister indicated he would take appropriate action. We expect him to issue that statement as soon as possible today so we can proceed with our work and safeguard the VRA. The VRA is a vital institution for our country’s economy and national security, and we will not allow any attempts to undermine it.
“The staff of the VRA and the citizens of this country are committed to fighting for the continued viability of the VRA and ensuring reliable, affordable electricity for everyone,” said the Chairman.
