Africa Cinema Summit: Prof. Samuel Ntewusu, Scilla Owusu, 3 others to speak, with Idris Elba as headline guest
The speakers for day one of the second Africa Cinema Summit have been announced, as shared in a post by Ghanaian-British filmmaker Scilla Owusu.
The panel features five distinguished individuals: Ms. Owusu; Prof. Samuel Ntewusu, Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana; Dr. Wale Okediran, a medical doctor, former Nigerian MP, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Union of Writers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America; Judith Opoku, Senior Archivist at IAS, UG; and acclaimed poet and playwright Chief Moomen. They will discuss the preservation of African history and documentary heritage through storytelling on Monday, October 7, 2024.
The summit will take place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, headlined by British actor Idris Elba, who has Ghanaian heritage. Themed “The Relevance of Cinema in African Communities,” the event will conclude on October 10.
Special guests attending the three-day program include Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Andrew Agyapa Mercer, Rwanda’s Minister of State for Youth & Arts Umotoni Sandrine, and Edmond Moukala, Head of the UNESCO Accra Office.
Radio and TV personality Kpekpo Maxwell Justice (KMJ) will host the 2024 Africa Cinema Summit, which is convened by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, CEO of the National Film Authority.
