Amenfi Central: High Court dismisses application to injunct EC from printing ballot papers

On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the High Court (General Jurisdiction 6) in Accra dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s application for an injunction, originally filed on October 17, 2024. The injunction sought to prevent the Electoral Commission from printing ballot papers and the notice of poll for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

The NDC’s lawsuit followed the Electoral Commission’s refusal to recognize Joana Gyan Cudjoe as the legitimate NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, despite a High Court ruling in Sekondi on May 31, 2024, that supported her candidacy.

The court affirmed the Electoral Commission’s stance, noting that its decision to not recognize Cudjoe was in compliance with the earlier court order, which remains unresolved. The court stated that acting otherwise would amount to contempt of the pending orders.
