Kpandai MP challenges Matthew Nyindam’s election victory
Daniel Nsala Wakpal, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, has filed a legal challenge against the election of Matthew Nyindam as the elected Member of Parliament for Kpandai.
Wakpal asserts that the parliamentary election held in Kpandai on December 7th was invalid. He claims that there were irregularities and inconsistencies in the FORM 8A (Regulation 32(7) and 39(2) statement of polls, also known as the pink sheet), from 41 out of 152 polling stations in the constituency.
According to Wakpal, the election did not comply with the regulations outlined in the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (CI 127), specifically Regulation 39, which he argues affected the outcome of the election. He further claims that the declaration and publication of the election results also violated Regulation 43, and this non-compliance impacted the entire electoral process.
As a result, Wakpal is seeking a court order to annul the parliamentary election results for the 41 affected polling stations and is calling for a re-run of the election in these areas on a date to be determined by the court.
