Sammy Gyamfi assumes office as PMMC MD
Sammy Gyamfi has officially asumed the role of Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) in a brief ceremony held on Monday, January 20. He takes over from Nana Akwasi Awuah, who has led the company since 2021.
The appointment was made by President John Mahama, who named Gyamfi, the Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to the position last week.
In his statement, Gyamfi emphasized his commitment to ensuring that PMMC remains a trusted steward of Ghana’s mineral resources, while seeking new opportunities for growth and diversification. “Our duty is to maximize the benefits of our natural resources, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with the national interest,” Gyamfi remarked.
The outgoing MD, Nana Akwasi Awuah, praised the PMMC team for their contributions, highlighting achievements in financial management, operational efficiency, and the protection of the company’s core mandate. “The progress we’ve made reflects the dedication of every team member. I am confident that with Sammy in charge, PMMC will continue to flourish,” Awuah stated.
Key responsibilities
Gyamfi will oversee the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key campaign promise of the NDC before the 7 December elections.
