Dr. Nii Moi Thompson appointed Chairman of NDPC
Development economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), pending consultations with the Council of State.
Dr. Thompson, who previously served as the Director-General of the NDPC, was instrumental in developing Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan. From 2014 to 2015, he led Ghana’s technical delegations to the United Nations, contributing to the formulation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their integration into the national development agenda.
As Chairman, Dr. Thompson will collaborate with the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the Government Statistician, and regional representatives to provide strategic advice to the president and parliament on the country’s development policies.
In a related development, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) until the Board is reconstituted.
Mr. Twum Boafo, a Civil Engineer and finance expert, previously served as Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority from 2009 to 2017. He holds a BEng in Materials Engineering from the University of Wales, an MSc in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis from Stetson University, USA.
The presidency indicates that these appointments reflect the Mahama administration’s commitment to strengthening national planning and financial oversight within its broader governance strategy.
