1st Deputy Governor of BoG Dr. Opoku-Afari proceeds on leave

Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has begun his leave, effective February 5, 2025, ahead of the expiration of his contract. This move was approved by President John Mahama.

The announcement was made by the Bank of Ghana in a press release issued by the Communication Department on February 4, 2025.

“The public is hereby informed that Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, the current First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, will begin his leave from February 5, 2025, prior to the conclusion of his contract. This decision has been approved by H.E. President John Mahama,” the statement said.

Dr. Opoku-Afari was first appointed on August 7, 2017, for a four-year term and was reappointed for a second term on August 7, 2021.

According to the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended, his tenure will officially end on August 6, 2025, after completing two full terms.

The Bank of Ghana expressed gratitude to Dr. Opoku-Afari for his dedicated service to both the Bank and the nation, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
