Parliament’s Appointments Committee sets date

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is scheduled to vet Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the substantive position of Chief Justice on Monday, November 11, 2025.
According to the Order Paper for the fifth sitting of the Third Meeting of Parliament sighted by African Editors (AE) on Tuesday, October 28, the vetting will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Parliament House, Accra.

Nomination by President Mahama

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for the nation’s highest judicial office. His nomination now awaits parliamentary approval, in line with the constitutional requirement for such appointments.

Key focus of the vetting

During the session, members of the Appointments Committee are expected to assess Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s qualifications, judicial experience, and overall suitability for the role of Chief Justice. The vetting process is regarded as a vital step in upholding transparency and reinforcing public trust in Ghana’s judicial system.

Speaker underscores importance of the process

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin highlighted the importance of a fair and thorough vetting process.

“We trust that this process will be carried out in accordance with the laws of our country,”
