Mahama orders release of $78m to complete Takoradi-Agona-Nkwanta Rd.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Finance to release approximately $78 million to JustMoh Construction to settle all outstanding payment certificates owed to the company since 2024.
Move aimed at fast-tracking completion
The directive is intended to accelerate the completion of the Takoradi–Agona-Nkwanta road, a vital section of the Trans–West African Highway, which serves as a key transport corridor linking Ghana to Côte d’Ivoire. The road is considered strategic for trade, regional integration, and economic activity in the Western and Central corridors.
Outstanding payments cleared
According to information available, the funds will clear accumulated arrears owed to JustMoh Construction, which have delayed progress on the project. The release of funds is expected to stabilize cash flow for the contractor and allow works to resume at full pace.
Background on project financing
For the record, it has been stated that the previous NPP administration did not make payments on the project prior to leaving office. Instead, JustMoh Construction was reportedly guaranteed by government to secure a GH₵100 million loan from GCB Bank to keep the project running during that period.
Expectations going forward
With the disbursement approved, stakeholders are hopeful that the long-delayed road project will now be completed within a reasonable timeframe, improving safety, reducing travel time, and boosting economic activities along the corridor.
