‘Promoting gay rights is an insult to God’s intelligence’- Christian Clerics
Christian clerics led by the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, have called on President Akufo-Addo to ensure that all doors for LGBTQI+ or homosexuality are shut in Ghana.
They made the call when the Clerics including the Methodist Church, Apostolic Church, and Christian Council, presented a memoranda to the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee in support of the anti-LGBTQI+ Bill currently before parliament.
“Promoting gay rights is an insult to God’s intelligence’ and must not be tolerated in Ghana”, they said.
The Church of Pentecost led by its Chairman and 5 different Christian associations have today presented petitions to parliament to push for the passage of the Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill into law.
Aside this, the Church of Pentecost has additionally introduced six memos and 6,000 signatures of chapel individuals, students, scholars to urge parliament to pass the Bill into law.
Talking in the wake of introducing the petitions to parliament Chairman of the Church of Pentecost said “Advancing gay rights is an affront to God’s insight. We’re not worried about now, our anxiety is about the future where individuals will be kept from spreading the gospel”.
The Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was brought into parliament by seven MPs drove by Ningo Prampram Lawmaker Sam George.
Parliament has since gotten more than 100 notices in and outside after the LGBTQ+ was brought into parliament.
The developing backings for the entry of the Bill into law comes at the time an alliance of 18 Professors, academics and lawyers led by Akoto Ampaw, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Prof. Raymond Atuguba, Dr. Yao Graham, Prof. H. Kwesi Prempeh, Dr. Kojo Asante and others have introduced request in solid resistance to the Bill.
As per them, the bill whenever passed into law, will shorten crucial common freedoms.
