KETASCO ’97 Year Group launched 25th anniversary in Accra

KETASCO 1997 Year Group has launched 25th anniversary in Accra to usher-in preparations towards the celebration of their Silver Jubilee, with a clarion call on corporate Ghana, all and sundry to contribute to the refurbishment of the ICT Lab of the school. 

According to the President of 1997 Year Group, Kplorm Dovlo, they intend to refurbish the ICT lab of KETASCO as part of their contributions to the progress of the school.

Speaking at the launch of 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) by KETASCO 1997 Year Group, an Old Student and Lecturer at University of Ghana’s Biomedical Engineering Department Dr. John Kutor who chaired the launch said “It’s crucial to rehabilitate ICT facilities of KETASCO to scale up academic work”.

Established on 27 February 1953 in the Volta Region, KETASCO’s student population currently stands at 3677, producing human resources to augment Ghana’s workforce.

Apart from that, KETASCO currently boasts of extra curricular activities, discipline, hard-work among students, staff, critical facilities, student enrollment has seen tremendous improvement and staff strength stands at 194, serving as a shining example to its counterparts. Out of 194 staff, 171 are teaching staff and 23 are non-teaching staff.

Speaking at the launch, Headmaster of KETASCO, Isaac Kofi Dzidzienyo said “KETASCO is a formidable force to reckon with in the area of sports, academic, other intellectual discourse and expressed confidence that KETASCO will win the topmost prize at the NSMQ competition slated for Friday”.

He expressed profound gratitude to the old students of the school, heartfelt thanks to the 1997 Year Group, for making the boldest step to refurbish the ICT Lab of KETASCO ahead of its 25th Anniversary.

Headmaster Isaac Kofi Dzidzienyo noted that “the rekindled spirits of old students of KETASCO to initiate good number of developmental projects, providing material and financial resources, is a far-reaching step in the direction, that continues to whip up the interests of the book runnners of the school to accomplish set goals”.

According to Headmaster Dzidzienyo, although academic performance has not been at its best in recent times due to intense pressure on limited resources, coupled with other factors, efforts are being made by authorities of KETASCO to scale up outputs, aimed at fixing challenges facing the school solely to put the school on the surest path of progress.

“I’m never going to rest until academic excellence is achieved. Steps are being taken to make sure KETASCO becomes best school of choice”, Mr. Dzidzienyo noted.

Contributing to the discussion, Chairman of the Planning Committee of the 1997 Year Group, Gilbert Dordor said refurbishment of computer lab currently in a deplorable state is very high on the agenda of his outfit.

According to Dordor, ICT and digitisation has taken the world by the storm and even more revealing in the face of infectious Covid-19, already compelling students to resort to zoom and other online learning platforms.

He called on corporate Ghana to extend gestures to KETASCO 1997 Year Group, anchored on their agenda to contribute their quota to their Alma Mater”.

Meanwhile, Dean of University of Cape Coast (UCC) Business School Prof. John Gatsi, an old student who completed KETASCO in 1993, called for scale up of investment in ICT infrastructure to improve access to internet to overcome roadblocks to equity of access to technology.

He urged that technology should be used in teaching and learning to improve access and participation.

“Efficient deployment of ICT at SHS level is crucial”, he said.

Prof. Gatsi also wants Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) in Senior High Schools to be given enough recognition to play roles in the governance structure of Senior High Schools.

“Indiscipline leads to poor academic performance. Let’s recognise PTAs in the governance of our schools. They must be given enough room to operate”, Prof. Gatsi noted.

Apart from that, the UCC Professor John Gatsi believes political interference and division among teachers on campus must be avoided.

It is important to anchor the point that, preparations are underway to mark the Silver Jubilee of the 1997 Year Group of the school, at time KETASCO has made it to the grand finale of the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition, lacing its boots to lift the topmost trophy to stamp victory comes Friday.

KETASCO has defied all odds to qualify for the grand finale of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after beating competitions from Tamale Senior High School and Wesley Girls’ Senior High School in the semi-finals at the KNUST Campus.

KETASCO started the contest on exciting note, winning the first and second rounds only to score 0 out of 10 in the third round, dubbed ‘Problem of the Day’.

Having put their nose to the grindstone, they quickly put themselves together and won the remaining two rounds to emerge winners of the semi-final with 53points.

The closest contender was Wesley Girls Senior High School managed to poll 35 points and Tamale Senior High School garnered 31 points.

KETASCO will battle PRESEC and Prempeh College at the grand finale of the NSMQ slated for Friday November 26, 2021.

KETASCO becomes the first school from the Volta Region to make it to the grand finale of the NSMQ after the school puts up splendid performance.
