We'll tighten security to restore calm- KNUST

The decision to tighten security follows chaotic scenes that broke out early hours of Sunday at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) between University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall during SRC vetting.

The two halls have long existing unresolved dispute. Every now and then, there is a new twist to the matter.

The latest bloody clash during SRC vetting led to destruction of furniture amid confusion and flexing of muscles between some of students involved when the pandemonium erupted.

Scores of students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology sustained injuries after the conflict escalated involving disgruntled members of Katanga and Conti Halls resulting in free-for-all machete, knife, broken-bottle fight leaving scores of students wounded.

Also, University property within the Great Hall including chairs, glass doors, pots of flowers and others were damaged.

But, speak in an interview monitored by African Editors on Monday 5 July 2021, the KNUST Management says it will constitute committee to probe the incident.

According to the KNUST Public Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe “vetting exercise which resulted in the violent clashes has been put on hold whilst maintaining police presence to restore calm on campus”.
