Scale up fertilizer programme to fix unemployment- Yaa Naa
Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II has called on President Akufo-Addo to strengthen the existing fertiliser programme to improve farming and create more employment.
According to the Dagbon Overlord, the programme has been pivotal to the survival of No return Northern farmers within Dagbon, adding that there is urgent need to expand the policy to improve farming.
The Overlord of Dagbon made the call through Registrar of the Dagbon Traditional Council when the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie paid a working tour to the Gbewaa Palace in the Northern Region as part his visit of regions of the North, during inspection of farming communities and ongoing projects.
The Overlord of Dagbon Traditional Area, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II in his speech also stressed that, the area has high rate of unemployment among the youth as he admonished the minister to help expand more of the government’s flagship programs to help fix spare of unemployment in Ghana.
He also commended the Dr. Afriyie for his immense contributions to the Dagbon area, making their son emerged the 2021 Best Farmer.
The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto on his part assured the chief of his continuous support and revealed that, the government has many programmes currently underway which fix the unemployment challenges facing the youth.
Ghana marked the National Farmers Day to honour distinguished farmers.
