A Rocha Ghana drags Lands Minister to court

A Rocha Ghana, a conservation organization, has taken legal action against Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, by filing an interlocutory injunction application.

The organization’s lawsuit aims to prevent the Minister and the Forestry Commission from declassifying Globally Significant Biodiversity Areas (GSBAs) as logging areas. They also seek a permanent injunction to stop any transactions or contracts granting rights to exploit timber in GSBAs.

A Rocha Ghana, known for their conservation efforts, is urging the court to declare the issuance of Timber Utilisation Contracts without Parliamentary approval as illegal.

In September, A Rocha Ghana joined forces with six other civil society organizations to announce their plans to sue the government for illegal mining activities in forest reserves.
