Ablakwa vs Rev. Kusi Boateng: MP’s lawyers object to new panel
Lawyers representing North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa have raised an objection to a newly constituted panel of judges set to hear a contempt case brought by Rev. Kusi Boateng, Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.
The Court of Appeal was scheduled to deliver a ruling on a defamation lawsuit filed by Rev. Kusi Boateng aimed at preventing the MP from discussing him in relation to the National Cathedral issue. This marks the third attempt by Rev. Kusi Boateng, also known as Adu Gyamfi, to restrain the MP.
Lead counsel for Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Thaddeus Sory, objected to the newly constituted panel, arguing that it is unconstitutional and raises concerns about fair hearing. He pointed out that the original panel that initially heard the case had two judges, Justice Dzemefe and Justice Senyo, who were not present in the current panel.
Thaddeus Sory also alleged that the High Court judge who dismissed the contempt application by Rev. Kusi Boateng has been transferred multiple times, suggesting a potential conflict of interest due to the plaintiff’s affiliation with the person who constitutes the panel.
The panel will deliver a ruling on the objection raised on Wednesday, June 26, determining whether the court will proceed with the application by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to strike out Rev. Kusi Boateng’s application, or reinstate the original panel for the case.
