Achimota Forest declassification wrong, withdraw EI.144 – Ga Mantse to Akufo-Addo
Boni Nii Takie Adama Latse II, Ga Mantse and the Ga Dzase expressed shock at decision by government of Ghana to declassify 361.50 acres of Achimota Forest Reserve, the only greenbelt left for Accra, the capital and its environs.
A statement signed by Ga Dzasetse and issued on Tuesday 24 May 2022 said “Boni Nii Takie Adama Latse II, Ga Mantse and the Ga Dzase express utmost shock and surprise at the decision by Government to declassify 361.50 acres of Achimota Forest Reserves from being a forest reserve through Executive Instrument 144 by Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abudulai Jinapor”.
According to the Ga Mantse and the Ga Dzase, the Achimota Forest Reserve is the only greenbelt left for Accra and its environs and such decision will affect the ecological integrity of the forest, its protection of water bodies and its natural environment”.
Ga Mantse and the Ga Dzase also called on President Akufo-Addo to rescind decision to mortgage Ghana’s mineral resources meant for development under Agyapa deal.
