Airbus scandal: OSP found no evidence of corruption against Mahama

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has absolved Ghana’s opposition Leader, former President John Dramani Mahama of any corruption-related activities in the contentious Airbus bribery scandal.

Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, had previously alleged that Mr. Mahama was the unidentified ‘Government Official 1’ implicated in the scandal surrounding the acquisition of aircraft from Airbus for the Ghanaian government. Despite denying the allegation, members of the ruling NPP party continued to insist that the former president was complicit in the bribery scandal.

At a press conference in Accra on Thursday August 8, 2024, the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, clarified the situation in his latest statement on the Airbus bribery issue, confirming that neither John Mahama nor his brother, Adam Mahama, based in the UK, were recipients of any illicit payments. During a press briefing on Thursday, Mr. Agyebeng emphasized that their investigations had yielded “no evidence” of corruption involving the former President.
