Ghaianan President Akufo-Addo has nominated former Minister for Finance Ken Ofori-Atta for an international role focusing on Ghana’s economy.

Assuming he accepts, Ken Ofori-Atta will discharge his duties as Senior Presidential Adviser on the economy and will also serve as Ghana’s Special Envoy on International Investments and Capital Markets.

In a major ministerial reshuffle today, President Akufo-Addo removed Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.

Mohammed Amin Adam, the current minister of state for finance, will take over as the new Finance Minister.

This move comes amid mounting pressure for President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Ofori-Atta due to Ghana’s economic challenges, with the International Monetary Fund providing a $3 billion bailout.

Other changes in the reshuffle include the removal of Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Kwaku Afriyie, and Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been moved to the Housing Ministry, with his deputy Fatimatu Abubakar taking over his previous post.

Thirteen ministers in Ghana have been affected by the reshuffle, including 10 Cabinet ministers and two regional ministers.

The new appointees will need to undergo parliamentary vetting before taking up their new roles.

This reshuffle comes at a time when Ghana is facing economic difficulties, with rising inflation and debt levels.
