Akufo-Addo rejects calls to reshuffle cabinet

Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is insisting he will not kowtow to intense pressures on him to reshuffle his ministers because they have performed well to his satisfaction.

Speaking in an interview on North Star radio in Tamale on Monday, 8 August 2022, the Ghanaian Leader said “many of my ministers for me have done outstanding work. Their output has been considerable, and that is what I look at.”

“If the output measures expectations, then I don’t have any strong reasons to heed the call,” Nana Akufo-Addo added.

He noted that people have their own ulterior motives for calling for reshuffle. Among them, he noted that “The calls come for all kinds of reasons; NDC wanting to destabilise the government is one. There are people who are also looking for jobs”.

A section of Ghanaians have called on the President to reshuffle his minister’s because the present ones have lost ideas.

One minister who the call has been directed at is Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta who have been accused of incompetence in the wake of the harsh economic conditions in the country.

Ghana’s opposition leader Ex-President John Dramani Mahama, Chief of Staff to President John Agyekum Kufuor Kwadwo Mpiani and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong including minority Caucus of Parliament have all called for the resignation of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over abysmal economic records.

Ghana’s external debt stock rose from GHC120 billion in 2016 to GHC400 billion in 2022, 15% inflation rate in 2016 to 29.8%, Cedi to the dollar was GHC4 to almost GHC9 with rating agencies such S&P Global, Bloomberg, Fitch, Moody’s downgrading Ghana from B+ in 2016 to Caa1.
