Akufo-Addo renames Ameri Power Plant as K1TPP
In a desperate move to deceive Ghanaians, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has rebranded the Ameri plant secured by former President John Dramani Mahama as the Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant (K1TPP). Despite achieving nothing substantial in the Energy sector, the government has relocated the 10-unit Ameri Power Plants to Kumasi and plans to recommission them on April 17, 2024. This blatant attempt to take credit for President Mahama’s accomplishments will not be tolerated.
According to John Jinapor, MP, “Having achieve anything meaningful in the Energy sector, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government have done the unthinkable by rebranding the Ameri plant procured under the able leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama under a new name called Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant (K1TPP) , all in a desperate attempt to deceive Ghanaian”.
The Ameri Power Plants made up of 10 units, each with a total capacity of 250 megawatts, is a modular and versatile plant allowing for flexibility to generate power even with limited Gas supply.
He noted that ” the only thing Akufo-Addo administration has done is to relocate the units to Kumasi in Ashanti, and as if this is not enough, they have gone a step further by deciding to recommission the same plants 17th April 2024, interestingly this same plant was commissioned under President Mahama. This attempt to appropriate achievements of President Mahama and present them as that of this non-performing government will no longer be countenacned”.
Govt planning to rename Ameri Plant as Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant –Edudzi Tameklo
The Director of Legal Directorate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has raised concerns over what he perceives as the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration’s attempt to rename the Ameri Power Plant as Kumasi 1 Power Plant.
This move, according to Mr Tameklo, is a tactic to mislead the people of the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the Ameri Power Plant, initially procured by former President John Dramani Mahama, was intended to address the country’s power challenges, boasting a capacity to generate 25 megawatts of electricity.
Mr Tameklo asserted that the renaming of the power plant is a deliberate ploy to deceive Ghanaians, particularly those residing in the Ashanti Region, where the plant is located.
He emphasised Mr Mahama’s role in acquiring the power plant as part of efforts to alleviate the country’s power crisis during his tenure.
Taking to Facebook on Saturday, April 13, Mr Tameklo urged vigilance among Ghanaians, urging them not to fall for what he views as a misleading tactic by the current administration.
“BAWUMIA and Akufo Addo out of shame have decided to repackage and rename the AMERI plants as Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant.
This is what they are planning to go and commission.”
“This corrupt, incompetent ,useless and wasteful government is determined to hoodwink voters in Ashanti region with the renaming and repackaging.”
“This administration has failed to do anything meaningful in power generation,” he posted.
