Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council quashes case against Begoro Ankobeahene
The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has dismissed the case against Begoro Akobeahene Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II after he was called to appear. The chief had been summoned for allegedly making partisan comments in support of Ghana’s opposition Leader John Dramani Mahama. Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II appeared before the council this morning in response to the summons.
But addressing the media, Counsel for Begoro Ankobeahene Isaac Larbi Minta revealed the case has been settled.
Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II was accused of endorsing the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during his tour of the Eastern Region. The petitioners in the case are seeking to have him destooled, have his conduct nullified, and for him to publicly recant the comments and apologize to the people of Begoro.
The NDC suspects that the summoning is a ploy to cover up a chieftaincy dispute, but they are urging the Council to conduct fair hearings.
