Anti-gay bill: we’ll march to presidency if assent delays -Clergy

In recent weeks, a controversial anti-gay bill has been making headlines in Ghana, sparking outrage and debate among politicians, religious leaders, and activists. The bill, which criminalizes same-sex relationships and imposes harsh penalties on LGBTQ individuals, has been met with widespread backlash both locally and globally. One outspoken advocate of the bill is the President of Worldwide Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh. In a recent interview, Dr. Tetteh vowed to lead a march to the presidency if the bill’s assent is delayed any further. “As Christian leaders, we cannot sit back and watch our country take steps backwards in terms of what is accepted by majority of citizens” he declared. Dr. Tetteh, a prominent figure in Ghana’s religious community, has been a fierce advocate for the anti-gay bill and acceptance.

As the debate over Ghana’s controversial anti-gay bill continues to grip the nation, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, President of Worldwide Outreach, has emerged as a prominent voice advocating for its immediate assent. With staunch determination, he has warned that should President Akufo-Addo delay the bill’s assent, he is prepared to lead a march to the presidency to demand action.

In an exclusive interview, Rev. Dr. Tetteh underscored the importance of upholding traditional values and morals, citing biblical, health, and constitutional grounds as crucial reasons for the bill’s implementation. “As Christian leaders, we have a moral duty to protect the sanctity of marriage and uphold the values enshrined in the Bible,” he emphasized.

Drawing from biblical teachings, Rev. Dr. Tetteh highlighted the scriptures that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. He argued that legalizing same-sex relationships contradicts these foundational principles and undermines the moral fabric of society. “We must adhere to the teachings of the Bible and ensure that our laws reflect our faith and values,” he stated.

Furthermore, Rev. Dr. Tetteh pointed to health concerns associated with homosexuality as another pivotal reason for enacting and assenting to the anti-gay bill. Citing reports from medical experts, he raised awareness about the risks of sexually transmitted infections among same-sex partners and underscored the importance of promoting healthy relationships that prioritize physical well-being.

From a constitutional perspective, Rev. Dr. Tetteh emphasized the need to respect Ghana’s laws and uphold the rights of the majority. He contended that the anti-gay bill aligns with the democratic values enshrined in the nation’s 1992 constitution, as it reflects the wishes of the citizens and serves to protect the moral and cultural heritage of Ghana.

In a passionate call to action, Rev. Dr. Tetteh urged President Akufo-Addo to prioritize assenting to the anti-gay bill, stressing the importance of preserving Ghana’s traditional values and safeguarding the well-being of its people. “We cannot overlook the biblical, health, and constitutional reasons in our pursuit of justice and equality,” he proclaimed.

As the nation awaits the president’s decision, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh stands firm in his conviction that Ghana must uphold its values and beliefs, ensuring a future that is rooted in respect, morality, and adherence to the principles that have guided the nation for generations.
