Appiate explosion: compensate victims – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on President Akufo-Addo and the State to seek compensation for the victims of the Appiate Explosion. He believes the task and quest for compensation should be the responsibility of the State instead of the victims

At a townhall meeting involving victims of the Appiate Explosion and a Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Benito Bio, the victims had appealed for State support in seeking compensation.

However, Benito Bio rather encouraged the victims to take a class legal action instead of waiting on the State.

Former President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday August 16, 2022 visited the victims, for the first time since the incident, to commiserate with them.

The victims used the opportunity to lament to the former President difficulties they are going through in their desire to seek for compensation.

The former President in a response said it will rather be ideal for the State to seek for compensation for the victims.

Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea Huni Valley Dr. Isaac Dsamani revealed that six victims are still battling for their lives.

Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley Wisdom Cudjoe appealed for more support for the Appiatse Relief Committee by the Municipality to help deal with immediate needs.

The former president John Dramani Mahama then donate 500 bags of Rice, 100 boxes of tin tomatoes, 100boxes of can fish, 100 mattress and also added 5,000 Ghana cedis to the Relief Committee.
