Appointment C’ttee recommends approval of Ablakwa and 11 others by consensus

The Appointments Committee has reached a consensus to recommend the approval of Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and ten other nominees following their vetting on Friday, January 31.

Despite earlier tensions that resulted in a walkout by the Minority, the committee continued its evaluation of the nominees and ultimately agreed that all twelve ministers-designate met the necessary qualifications for their roles.

In addition to Ablakwa and Akandoh, the nominees for approval include Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications; Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, Minister-designate for the Savannah Region; and Wilbert Petty Brentum, Minister-designate for the Western North Region. Other nominees include Joseph Nelson, Minister-designate for the Western Region; Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Minister-designate for the Bono Region; Francis Owusu Antwi, Minister-designate for the Bono East Region; and Puozuing Charles Lwanga, Minister-designate for the Upper West Region.

The committee’s recommendation will now be presented to the full Parliament, where a formal vote will determine the confirmation of the nominees. Given the consensus among committee members, the approval by Parliament is expected to be a formality.
