Audit, re-exhibit voters register to correct errors –NDC to EC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a re-exhibition of the 2024 voters register in response to numerous discrepancies identified during the recent voter exhibition exercise. This call was made by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting. Dr. Boamah expressed concerns about the integrity of the upcoming general election and highlighted the NDC’s analysis comparing the 2023 and provisional 2024 registers, which revealed widespread errors.
The NDC has requested a forensic audit of the 2020, 2023, and 2024 voters registers to identify the root causes of these anomalies. Dr. Boamah stressed the need for a comprehensive audit, including pre-2024 registers, to ensure the credibility of the election process.
The NDC has proposed another 5-day re-exhibition of the register after the forensic audit to allow voters to verify their information. Dr. Boamah emphasized that the party’s main objective is to uphold the credibility and integrity of the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.
The NDC believes that an independent forensic audit is necessary to address concerns about voter transfers and disparities between data at the EC headquarters and regional offices. Dr. Boamah stated that while they would have preferred to avoid a forensic audit, the current circumstances make it unavoidable and essential for restoring public trust in the EC.
