CJ demands higher budget allocation

Chief Justice of Ghana Gertrude Torkornoo has urged the government to invest more resources in improving the judiciary system. She highlighted the inefficiencies of the current manual administrative system and emphasized the need for digitalization through proper funding. By allocating more budget to the judiciary, the Chief Justice believes that the automation and digitalization agenda can be expanded, leading to increased efficiency in court processes and administration.

Speaking at a press conference, Justice Torkornoo emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the judiciary. She proposed real-time publication of judgments to keep the Ghanaian public informed. The Chief Justice also emphasized the need for independence and impartiality in the judiciary, which she believes can be achieved through a digitalized system that minimizes human interference.

Despite criticism over the swift handling of the case challenging the approval of ministerial nominees, the Chief Justice defended the decision by citing the Easter break and the Attorney General’s concerns. Justice Torkornoo remains committed to promoting transparency in legal matters and ensuring the integrity of the judicial system.
